Editorial Policy
How we maintain integrity, independence, and accuracy across every article on this site.
Our Mission
ClutterScience exists to help readers make better-informed decisions about home organization products and strategies — by applying rigorous, evidence-informed analysis to a category that is too often dominated by aesthetic trends and undisclosed sponsorships.
We believe that honest, independent home organization reviews are a public good. Our editorial decisions are made on the basis of what serves the reader, not what maximizes short-term revenue.
Editorial Independence
Our editorial team operates independently of our commercial relationships. The following practices are non-negotiable:
- No pay-to-rank. We do not accept payment — in cash, product, or any other form — to improve a product's rating, position, or coverage.
- No undisclosed sponsorships. If content is sponsored or produced in partnership with a brand, it is labeled clearly as sponsored. Sponsored content does not influence the ratings or coverage of products in independent editorial reviews.
- Editorial relationships do not drive editorial decisions. We regularly recommend products that have no affiliate program, lower retailer rates, or are sold through channels without partner programs. The best product for the reader gets the top spot.
- Free products are disclosed. If a product was provided at no cost for review, this is disclosed in the article. Our editorial standards require the same critical analysis regardless of how we acquired the product.
- No pressure from advertisers. We do not allow current or prospective advertising relationships to influence editorial coverage. A brand that advertises on this site receives no preferential treatment in our reviews.
Content Standards
Evidence Requirements
Every factual claim in our articles must be supported by a cited source or verifiable product specification. We prioritize:
- Manufacturer specifications verified against real-world user reports
- Independent product testing data and verified purchase reviews
- Behavioral research on organization habits and space optimization where applicable
- Direct product comparisons using consistent criteria
Language Standards
- We use qualified language ("in our assessment," "based on user reports") rather than absolute claims
- We explicitly note when data is limited or based on a small number of sources
- We do not use manipulative urgency language ("limited time," "buy now before it's gone") in editorial content
Accuracy & Freshness
We update articles when: product formulations or dimensions change, pricing information becomes outdated, better alternatives enter the market, or reader feedback identifies inaccuracies. Updated articles display a "Last Updated" date alongside the original publication date.
Disclosure Policy
For current disclosure policy and editorial-independence details, see our disclosure page.
Per FTC guidelines (16 CFR Part 255), all material connections between endorsers and product sellers are disclosed clearly and conspicuously. We comply fully with these requirements.
Corrections Policy
We are committed to correcting factual errors promptly and transparently. If you identify an error in our content:
- Contact us at the address below with the specific claim and your source
- We will investigate and respond within 5 business days
- Verified corrections are made immediately and noted at the bottom of the article
- Significant corrections are noted with a correction disclosure at the top of the article
We do not remove negative coverage or alter editorial conclusions in response to commercial pressure.
